Trincadeira
A spicy, fresh red grape most at home in the hot, dry Alentejo. In the Douro it is called Tinta Amarela.
Trincadeira is one of the classic red grapes of southern Portugal. It gives wine with red fruit, spicy and sometimes herbal notes and fresh acidity — exactly what a warm region like the Alentejo needs to avoid heaviness.
It is not an easy grape in the vineyard: in damp weather it is prone to rot. That is why it does best where it is hot and dry.
