Quinta de Santa Eufémia
Family estate in the Douro, making wine since 1864 and now in its fourth generation. Known for Port, and for dry wine that does not hide behind it.
Quinta de Santa Eufémia has made wine for four generations, since 1864, on the steep schist terraces along the Douro. Like many houses in the valley it began with Port, and it still makes it.
What ties Varna to this house is that the winemaker, Alzira Castro-de Carvalho, does not stop at Port. She makes a dry white from four Douro grapes that was a bestseller in Varna’s shop for years, and a rosé Port she keeps young and fresh — made to drink chilled, even over ice, as an aperitif.
The Eirados Reserva was made here too, by Alzira, from grapes from the Eirados Varna vineyard: a plot that once belonged to the quinta and where archaeologists found pottery around two thousand years old.

Quinta de Santa Eufémia Rosé Port
A Port you can happily serve over ice.
Winemaker Alzira breaks with tradition: stainless steel rather than oak, made to drink young. Strawberry, raspberry and a touch of almond. Not a dessert wine — this opens the evening.
