How we match
No clever guess and no language model inventing an answer. Your match score is a calculation we can explain.
Nine axes
We track nine values from 0 to 100 for you and every wine. Yours come from the quiz; the wine values come from tasting notes reviewed by Varna. An irrelevant or unanswered axis simply does not count.
The calculation
weight = base weight × confidence × relevance distance = weighted difference between you and the wine match score = 100 − distance + bonuses − penalties
Bonuses and penalties
We add points for preferred colours, budget fit, food, occasion and familiar styles. Excluded colours drop out. Wines far over budget or out of stock lose points.
Match bands
85 or higher is Bullseye, 70 or higher Close, 55 or higher Worth a try, and below that Wide of the mark.
What we do not do
- No language model chooses your bottle; matching is transparent arithmetic.
- No external scores we cannot verify.
- No profile that flips after one evening; feedback adjusts it in small steps.
- No compulsory account and no email request before you see the result.
